8th Grade Teacher
I am so excited to be joining the family of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic School as the 8th grade teacher for 2018/2019. I will be teaching Math and Science for grades 7 and 8.
I taught sixth, seventh and eighth grade Math, Religion and Art at St. Mary’s Catholic Academy in New Albany, Indiana for twenty-three years prior to its closure. I have also taught Science. After SMCA’s closing, I moved to Our Lady of Providence High School for three years as a permanent substitute teacher. The past two years I have taught 7th and 8th grade Math and Honors Algebra I at St. Anthony of Padua in Clarksville, Indiana.
I attended Indiana University Southeast and earned two undergraduate degrees. My first degree, earned in December of 1980, was a Bachelor of Arts Degree. I earned my second degree, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, in December of 1988 and added a Junior High Math Endorsement in 1992.
I am a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Parish which is where I married my husband John Kraft, an attorney in New Albany, Indiana, and where our two daughters were baptized.
As a Math and Science teacher, my goal is to reach all students using a variety of approaches to teach problem solving, process and computational skills and investigation strategies. I want all of my students leaving the eighth grade well prepared for high school. They need to be confident in their capabilities and knowledge in Math and Science. I will also use Religion and other unique moments to teach and reflect about spirituality, morality and ethics in an effort to help my students grow in their faith and values.
It is going to be a fantastic year and I look forward to creating many special memories with the eighth grade students as they get ready to move on to high school.
